Draft Mageia ( IAC ) was launched in September 2010 as a fork of Mandriva Linux . It is supported not-for-profit organizations. June 1, 2011 came the first version Mageia . Distribution is based on the kernel Linux 2.6.38.7 and supported architectures i586 and x86_64 . Images are available in Mageia , using as a desktop environment KDE 4.6.3 or GNOME 2.32 , moreover, declared support LXDE and Xfce .
Supported upgrade from existing versions of Mandriva 2010.1, 2010.2.
The procedure was quite reconciled over the past two months, so the upgrade should work. But, as always before:
you should back up your data before upgrading;
If you upgrade your laptop (notebook), then connect to the network! You may need to update more than 2000 packages, and it may take some time;
Do not allow any network-intensive applications traffic during the upgrade process, because You need to reserve enough bandwidth for the update.
